Janta Ka Faisla started today at the Pastoral Centre Hall, Byron Bazar, Raipur. The citizen’s jury of migrant workers asked burning questions to the experts, civil society and representatives of the government.
JKF is deliberative democracy at work - creating a society of the people, for the people and by the people. We hope the deliberations and the verdict of the first Janta ka Faisla will become a model for how Indian society learns from its most vulnerable citizens.
The heart of the Janta ka Faisla is the jury and the life experiences and wisdom they bring to the verdict. A jury of migrants from Chhattisgarh was selected through an intensive process, starting with an initial list of 1.5 lakh migrants collated from various NGO and volunteer databases, followed by an automated round of calls with about 15000 migrants at the end of which several rounds of interviews led to the 15 member panel of jurors.
The Janta ka Faisla (JKF) is a space in which citizens deliberate on a range of issues that impact their lives. The citizens’ jury hears presentations from experts, passes judgment on the available choices and makes that judgment available to the public.
We are organizing a Janta ka Faisla, a citizen's jury consisting of migrants from Chhattisgarh later in July. Today's update is the first in a series on the practice of citizenship that will continue through independence day on August 15th.
